Bedtime Play

In a short half hour before bed tonight, I realized how in depth Evelyn's thinking really is. We were reading a book about a father and son (Go To Bed by Mercer Mayer). During the book, I stopped and asked Evelyn, which one is the Daddy? She pointed right to the Dad. Later in the book the mother appears. Evelyn pointed to her and said Mommy. I guess I didn't realize how well she associates words with meanings.

After reading the book five times, Evelyn began to play with her kitchen set. She picked up a skillet and put it on the stove. She then grabbed a can of vegetable soup and said, "Water" while running the can under her play faucet. Next, she poured the pretend contents into the skillet, put the can away and said, "Back", stirred the skillet contents, then brought the skillet to her nose, sniffed, and said "Hot". She EVEN understands that food can be spicy. What a genius.

Tonight before bed I also got a priceless picture of Evelyn and Daddy playing in her room.
